The goal for
this group is to give support to others
as they deal
with the prospect of losing their vision,
those who have
lost their vision completely, and those
who may be
caring for someone in this circumstance. The group
consists of people with little or no vision,
people who are losing or have lost their vision due to
glaucoma,
diabetes or some other disease or disorder.
The VIPs Support Group
was formed in 1998 in order to get more
information on coping with vision loss and getting on with their lives.
The encouragement they give each other is remarkable in that not
one low vision or sightless person feels sorry for themselves.
Members say they owe it all to the group, One person stated:
"My vision is just one part of my whole being, and I am not
going to let it keep me from getting on with my life."
Right now there are over
25 members in the group.
There are no dues or fees. Any visually impaired person
of any age is welcome. South Haven Senior Services sponsors
the group and provides meeting space at the Warren Senior Center
on the second and fourth Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
